Parker’s History

The legend and life of the scientist who discovered himself as a hotelier

Every day, Grand Hotel Parker embodies luxury, elegance, and the tradition of ancient Grand Tour Naples for its guests

In the late 1800s, the esteemed scientist George Parker Bidder III, a prominent English scholar in the field of marine biology, played a significant role at the Biological Station of the Royal Villa, now known as the Villa Comunale. He acquired the property of the former Hotel Tramontano Beau Rivage, where he had been a frequent patron. Over the subsequent decades, he adeptly redeveloped it into a sought-after destination for travelers from Northern Europe and Italian tourists alike.

The aftermath of World War II left a profound impact on Parker's, which, following the conflict, was revitalized by a dynamic and accomplished Neapolitan legal professional, Francesco Paolo Avallone. Acquiring the dilapidated structure, Avallone meticulously restored it to its former grandeur. However, in 1980, the seismic devastation in Irpinia profoundly affected Naples.

In response, Parker's embarked on a journey toward rejuvenation, preserving its original furnishings while undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment under the auspices of the Fine Arts of Naples. Presently, the hotel stands as a paragon of five-star luxury, characterized by the meticulous attention to detail upheld by the Avallone family, who remain the exclusive proprietors of this esteemed establishment.
